Most Modern Chairlift In The World Opens At Loon Mountain Resort

Eight-Place Design is the Fastest in North America

Today, Kancamagus 8, the most technologically advanced chairlift in the eastern United States debuted at Loon Mountain Resort. "This lift offers our guests an experience unlike any other in the region—it is a huge step forward for Loon." says Jay Scambio, president and general manager of Loon Mountain Resort.

Speed and Innovation

Kancamagus 8 provides access to Loon's West Basin trails and can transport skiers and riders at speeds of up to 18ft per second, making it the fastest eight-place chairlift in North America. The Direct Drive, D-Line design manufactured by Doppelmayr features 205 new developments, including 31 innovations and 14 patents, making it the most modern chairlift in the world. Kancamagus 8 elevates the guest experience with its whisper-quiet operation, ergonomically shaped and heated seats, and weather-blocking bubbles. "The introduction of Kancamagus 8 is an incredible achievement and marvel of innovation and design. Loon's history as a pioneer in the industry is exemplified with this installation." says Stephen Kircher, president and CEO of Loon's parent company, Boyne Resorts.

Purposeful Design

Located in the resort's Governor Adams Lodge base area, the Kancamagus 8 installation includes an aesthetically appealing structure that houses the lift's technology and lower terminal, provides nightly parking for the 8-place chairs, and offers a unique indoor loading experience for guests. The open-air structure also features a patio that provides outdoor seating and views of the West Basin trails.

Shaping The Future

Opening Kancamagus 8 marks the first major milestone of Flight Path: 2030, Loon's ten-year capital investment plan focused on modern innovations across the resort. "This lift is pivotal in reimagining the Governor Adams Lodge base area and we are well into the design phase of that project," affirms Scambio. Starting in summer 2022, Kancamagus 8 will serve Loon's growing network of downhill mountain biking trails.
